The woman at the front desk spent several minutes working on something on a computer without so much as a "Hello, I'll be with you in a minute." Eventually, we were served and handed room cards. Perhaps rating this hotel as a '3' is overly optimistic but I try not to be too critical. The wife and I drove up from Terlingua to spend the night in Carlsbad before heading out the next morning to tour the Carlsbad Caverns. Other than those problems we were blessed by Eddy who seemed to be the only bright light in that property. There was little space in our room for 2 large suitcases. That's a 1st for me, usually finding that a motel will usually do that for the client. We made our reservations using a 3rd party company and when we checked out a day early the motel told us that WE had to contact Expedia to obtain the refund for the early checkout. The coffee maching was very good and my experience is that most coffee machings do NOT make good coffee, so that was a plus. The joice machine was also set to make the juice more watery than real juice. The 2nd morninig we arrived earlier and then again there was a lack of food, as well as forks while the same lady was outside shmoozinig. we went down to eat at 0915, There was a lack of food and the dining room help refused to make more leven though it was advertised that it didn't close until 0930. Ouir first day there no one cleaned our room and there was no explanation as to why it wasn't cleaned. Ergo, we had to call her and had another long wait while she looked for the tope sheet. After a long search, she brought us a pile of lines to make our own/bed couch, and in that pile were 2 bottom fitted sheets. We found the couch/bed without linens and it tookl over an hour to resolve this problem so our kids could go to sleep. Upon arriving, the clerk didn't have much of a clue about anything. He had that unusual capability to communicate that he actually likes people and was more than just an employee. He went out of his way to meet our needs. Really, the only bright spot of our stay was the receptionist, Eddy. Cooked egg ,sausage ,hash browns ,not sure why so many hotels in US have single use plastics ,very bad for the environment, usual stuff but staff had smiles on their faces so that was nice to see … Didn't use pool or gym but breakfast was okay. Would have been nice if the pictures on the walls were of local area. Have stayed in quite a few of this type of hotel now in U.S and am mystified why the main decor colour is always brown ! Also sheets in these hotels are never cotton and always creased not what I'm used to (UK). Lots of construction workers and huge trucks in car park but they must be up n away early in the morning. Rooms do lack a bit of style but if you're looking for a comfortable clean bed then it'll do the job. Needed a corkscrew and shower cap which the guy with beard on front desk kindly provided. We had an issue with the room and it was dealt with straight away. We booked here as it was near the Caverns, approx 30 mins along the straight road.
